It’s on!

(2011) After the smashing kick-off party last night at the Copenhagen main library, we are totally ready to ride. Thanks copenhagers for organizing it. I loved the wagons, and so did everybody else. And the awesome Orkestar Baxtalo really got us up in the air. It was fantastic to see you all there. With support like this, we will definetely make it to Berlin, and solving some of the libraryworld’s toughest problems will not be hard for us. Cheers!

Get on! Come together! Gemeinsame Radtour von Fürstenberg über Oranienburg nach Berlin

A shadow-event from Seinäjoki to Vaasa, Finland

The main Cycling for libraries event from Copenhagen to Berlin seems to be inspiring people to organize their own shadow-events. This makes us very happy of course!

One such ride will take place in Kymenlaakso -area in south-eastern Finland, and another one has been planned to take place in Tennessee, USA. A third one will happen in Western Finland, from Seinäjoki to Vaasa. If you’re involved in a shadow-event like this, please stand up, send us a message and be counted! 🙂

The Seinäjoki to Vaasa -tour have their preparations well underway and their route from Seinäjoki to Vaasa look excellent. They have a blog too, see Kirjastopyöräily – Cykla för biblioteken and it is also included in the Cycling for libraries -RSS aggregator at http://www.cyclingforlibraries.org/planet. For topics they have chosen “Library – representing the users” and “The curiosity of the countryside – library is the leader of rural cultural services” (please excuse my rough translations). Here is their welcome message:

Joukko pohjalaisia kirjastolaisia aikoo pyöräillä 30.-31.5.2011 Seinäjoelta  Vaasaan nostaakseen esiin kirjastojen merkityksen yhteisölle.  Pyöräilyn järjestävät Seinäjoen kaupunginkirjasto, Seinäjoen korkeakoulukirjasto, Vaasan kaupunginkirjasto ja Verkko haltuun! Nätet i besittning! –projekti. Pyöräily on satelliittitapahtuma viralliselle Cycling for libraries –pyöräilylle, joka ajetaan touko-kesäkuussa Kööpenhaminasta Berliiniin. Siihen osallistuu satakunta kirjastolaista eri maista, myös Suomesta. Idea on alun perin lähtenyt Suomen kirjastoväen keskuudesta. Lisätietoa kansainvälisestä tapahtumasta: http://www.cyclingforlibraries.org/Pyöräilyn teemoiksi on valittu emotapahtuman teemoista kaksi:

  • Kirjasto – asiakkaiden asialla
  • Maaseudun uteliaisuus – kirjasto maaseudun sivistyspalvelujen ykkönen.

Teemoilla esitellään keinoja, miten kirjastot vahvistavat asiakasosaamistaan ja aktiivista rooliaan asiakkaiden tarpeiden tunnistamisessa sekä herätellään kuntia pitämään huolta kirjastoistaan.

——————————————

Kiinnostuitko? Haluatko mukaan ajamaan kirjastoasiaa ja – polkupyörääsi? Voit ajaa koko reitin tai poimia matkan varrelta itsellesi sopivan pätkän. Lopullinen ajoaikataulu ja reitti julkaistaan huhtikuun aikana.

Koko matkan ajavien osallistujien majoittuminen on Laihialla. Sen suhteen petipaikat ovat rajalliset. Jos koko reissu kiinnostaa, ota siis yhteyttä, mielellään huhtikuun aikana. verkkohaltuun@gmail.com

Shadow-event in Kymenlaakso -region on 27th May

Cycling for libraries is going viral 🙂 Below is the announcement for an another event inspired by Cycling for libraries. This one takes place in South-Eastern Finland, in the Kymenlaakso -region. Librarians will have a ride, and a meetup on 27th of May.

The really cool thing is, that they are challenging the library users too! Users who tour three libraries in different municipalities of the area by bicycle between the start of the campaign and the middle of September can get win e-book reader. With this they are campaigning their library consortia Kyyti, and their common digital library Kyyti.fi. Excellent work, i’m sure we will hear from our dear colleagues there. Best wishes!

Here is their invitation:

Hyppää Kyytiin!

Kymenlaakson kirjastot järjestävät yhteistyössä kesän 2011 aikana kyyti.fi -verkkopalvelunsa markkinointikampanjan, joka toteutetaan pyöräilykampanjana. Idea pyöräilystä heräsi Cycling for Libraries – kampanjasta, jossa joukko kirjastolaisia polkee Tanskasta Saksaan 28.5.-7.6.2011.

Kyyti.fi -pyöräilykampanja käynnistetään perjantaina 27.5.2011, jolloin vapaaehtoiset kirjastolaiset lähtevät pyöräilemään kirjastoistaan niin Etelä- kuin Pohjois-Kymenlaaksosta. Kouvolan kirjastoväen kohtaamispaikaksi on suunniteltu Myllykosken kirjastoa, josta innokkaimmat jatkavat vielä Susikosken silta -kahvioon (Huruksela), jonne myös Etelä-Kymenlaakson kirjastojen henkilökunta tähtää. Kohtaaminen tapahtuu näin ollen klo 12.00 puolivälissä Kymenlaaksoa. Henkilökunnan pyöräily toimii paitsi osoituksena Kymenlaakson kirjastojen erinomaisen hyvästä ja pitkäkestoisesta yhteistyöstä myös työhyvinvointitoimintana.

Pyöräilykampanja jatkuu asiakkaiden kampanjana, jolloin kaikissa Kymenlaakson kirjastoissa on leimauspisteet pyöräilypasseille. Täyteen leimatun passin palauttanut tai kolmen eri kirjaston leiman kerännyt voi osallistua palkintojen arvontaan. Pyöräilykampanjan pääpalkintona on e-kirjojen lukulaite. Tietoa kampanjasta, ohjeita, karttoja ym. löytyy osoitteesta www.kyyti.fi. Samaisessa paikassa voi käydä myös haastamassa kaverin kampanjaan mukaan.

Kyyti.fi pyöräilykampanja-aika on 27.5.-15.9.2011. Arvontavoitot jaetaan Aleksis Kiven ja suomalaisen kirjallisuuden päivänä 10.10.2011

Berlin Seminar

On Monday, June 6, 2011, the Berlin Seminar Cycling for Libraries: Shifting Traditions – Librarians on the move will take place under the auspices of the Kooperativer Bibliotheksverbund Berlin Brandenburg. Cyclists and interested locals are cordially invited.

The Conference

The conference location is Zuse Institute in Berlin-Dahlem. The motto for this one-day seminar is the same as for the tour: Shifting Traditions – Librarians on the move. In the spirit of the BarCamp culture, on the one hand, topics that have already been discussed by participants while on the move will be elaborated, on the other hand, there will be the possibility to register one’s own session spontaneously. A framework programme with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Martin Grötschel (Zuse Institute) and impulse presentations by Dr. Robert Kaltenbrunner (Bundesinstitut für Bau, Stadt- und Raumforschung) and Lukas Koster (University of Amsterdam) round off the conference.

Program:

09:00 – 10:00 Registration

15:45 – 16:00 Farewell

The Social Evening

After the conference, a first highlight of the “Berlin Package“ is scheduled: a social evening. It will take place at a location that could not be more appropriate in the context of changing traditions in librarianship and librarians that have embarked on the task of shaping the change: Tempelhof Airfield

The former airport premises that, until 3 years ago, used to be an inner-city airport with a long tradition connected to (West) Berlin have gradually been made available for new forms of use by the Berlin population since they have been opened for the public.  Be it a jogging or cycling path in summer, a location for fashion shows, a groomed cross-country paradise in winter or the (planned) new site of the Zentral- & Landesbibliothek: at Tempelhof Airfield it becomes absolutely clear that the end of traditions may entail a lot of new beginnings. With this in mind, we would like to end the first “Berlin Day” with the “Travelling People” in a circus tent with a barbecue, lots of music and spirituous beverages before starting the next morning with the bicycle demonstration to the Bibliothekartag.
