Cycling for libraries has been organized several times before. In 2011, we cycled from Copenhagen to Berlin, and in 2012, from Vilnius to Tallinn. In 2013 we rode from Amsterdam to Brussels and in 2014 we cycled from Montpellier to Lyon. Take a look at the press articles, TV spots and daily videos you can find from the drop-down list in Previous tours -> Documentation.

The heart-warmingly warm welcome of local colleagues and friends made this second Cycling for libraries an unforgettable experience. Some of the highlights of the journey must include a clifftop brassband, nights of Tartu, hills of Otepää, engaging and very inspiring, out-of-the-box evening excursions in Riga, some sandroads, beautiful speeches in little villages, unusual libraryservices, and of course a lot of food and beautiful outdoors.

Between 28th May and 7th of June 2011 we rode from Copenhagen to Berlin with a group of about 80 truly enthusiastic participants from Denmark, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Latvia, Belgium, France, Canada, USA, Australia, France and Belgium.
There are many stories to be shared and all the participants will have their own stories: we talked, talked, talked about libraries and librarianship (these librarypeople are unstoppable!). We visited local libraries, saw the Danish “open libraries”, ate food by Claus Meyer, had a Skype-lecture from Buffy Hamilton, enjoyed music and drinks, argued about cataloguing rules, made friends, fixed punctured tyres, participated in a singing performance in California, invested about 1.8 million calories in bicycling, experienced the absolutely stunning Danish and German countryside scenery, saw cute baby ponies, swimmed, had the Polizei halt the Autobahn in Rostock for us librarians, made the cover of several newspapers, appeared on radio news and on This Week in Libraries and on many professional library magazines, even watched some powerpoints in auditoriums, talked about management structures of libraries, shared best practices about Open Data, innovated quite a lot, got sunburned, and eventually, after stopping the traffic in downtown Berlin, we merged into 100th Bibliothekartage in Berlin.
